« Introduction/Location Canada is the second largest country in the world.

It is part of the North American continent, and shares its borders with the USA in the south and the state of Alaska in the north.

It is bounded by three oceans: the Pacific in the West, the Arctic in the North and the Atlantic in the East.

It is also a founder of the Commonwealth in 1931.

In this video, I will discuss about Canada and its relationship with the British Empire.

Resources First of all, Canada is a country that abounds in natural resources, such as energy , minerals and metals , forests , earth sciences , mapping and remote sensing .

For example, some energy sources include oil, natural gas, fossil and alternative fuels, uranium, and renewables.

Furthermore, there is exploration and deposit appraisal activities for metallic minerals, nonmetallic minerals, coal and uranium.

Canada is also a diamond producer due to its mines.

When it comes to financial resources, Canada has also a lot of assets such as: over 80 banks spread all over the country along with their 7,000 bank branches. Fight for independence Canada was under the British rule during 1763 to 1867.

By the 1860s the settlers who lived in British North America felt that the time was right for Canada to rule itself.

In 1867 Britain passed the British North America Act.

The provinces of British North America became a federation called Canada.

Canada ruled itself, but was closely linked to the British empire through trade and industry and other links.

But the Canadians in 1837 started to fight to gain complete independence and autonomy from Britain.

This led to many rebellions against the British government.

For example, the burning of the Parliament Buildings occurred on the night of April 25, 1849, in Montreal .

After a lot of deliberations, the nation of Canada really gained its independence from Great Britain through the passing of the Canada Act of 1982.

Legacy left by the British Canada has borrowed heavily from the United Kingdom when it comes to names.

For instance, Victoria, the name of Queen Victoria, has been given to the capital of the province, British Columbia.

British lifestyle is also heavily present till today.

For example, visitors relax with afternoon tea.

Canadians have also adopted sports such as cricket and football at professional levels.

The religion that most Canadians practice is Christianity, imported, obviously, from the UK.

English language is used in schools, universities, work places.. »
