Shoujo Rei
Why are they all there? Is there something outside?
Every step she was taking was slower and slower, as
if the time were being distorted.
The room was
gradually becoming silent, as she finally saw her.
Her heart was beating faster as she was hardly
breathing, unable to process what she had just seen.
What…? What the heck is happening?!
She took a few steps back, her eyes widening as she
realized the truth.
It can’t be…It’s a dream, it has to be!
The second after, she was in front of her class.
The
heavy atmosphere caused by the eyes of her
classmates was overwhelming, as if she couldn’t
breathe anymore.
« You killed her »
« It’s your fault »
« How could you…? »
« And she was considering you as her best friend… »
« You freak »
« You tricked her »
« You don’t even deserve to live »
The girl was curling up on herself, plugging her ears
with her hands as she tried to ignore them.
It can’t be…it can’t be…it’s just a nightmare, right?!
Then again, the girl found herself in a totally different
place.
This time, it was a completely empty room,
with a girl standing there.
Her back was facing our
poor protagonist, but her eyes widened as she
recognized the keychain on her phone.
Don’t tell me…
She opened her mouth, wanting to call her name but
nothing came out.
A soft chuckle could be heard as
the girl in uniform turned around, revealing her face.
It’s you…It’s really you!
Her cold-looking eyes, her usual ponytail, her pale
skin…and most importantly her smile.
The girl in
uniform slowly approached her, then whispered in
her ear.
« You are my best friend, Ran.
»
.....................................
Everything was dark around her, only her deep
breaths could be heard.
Another nightmare...when will it end?
A deep sigh echoed though her silent room as she
stood up.
The young girl opened the window, thinking
that maybe the calm of the night could, somehow,
ease her mind just a little.
Even if it’s not the first time...it still hurts.
She sighed again, gazing up at the moon.
Despite
being a summer night, the air was quite fresh.
As she
was lost in her thoughts, she heard some locusts
singing.
Like when we first met...
As she felt tears coming, she quickly went back to
bed, letting the chilly air fill her room.
Oh Emi, you have no idea how much I miss you...
And with regret in her mind, Ran drifted back to
sleep.
..........................................
This class just started, and I’m already bored...
In the back of the class, right beside the open
window was a short dark-haired girl, clearly not
paying attention to what the teacher could be saying,
only listening to the locusts 'song, like every other
day.
Well, it was like every other day until a faint
knock could be heard.
Her attention slowly drifted as her classmates were
mumbling between them.
“Something happened?”
“I heard that there’s a new transferred student who
was supposed to be here today”
“Do you think it’s a boy? I hope he’s good looking...”
“It’s an all-girls class, you idiot!”
A small chuckle escaped from her lips as the teacher
went back inside, followed by a young girl.
Woah...
She knew that her teacher was speaking, but all her
attention was on the new student.
Her pale skin, her
cold expression and even her brown hair, everything
was captivating.
As the locusts were still singing,
she saw her name written by herself on the
blackboard.
Sato Emi
Emi
“...beside Kemi.
Kemi, stand up please.”
The denominated Kemi stood up, a little smirk on her
face, guessing that the teacher told Emi to sit beside
her.
“I’m Ran Kemi, your desk mate.”
She said with a little smirk.
The brown-haired girl
only made a small nod, still having the cold
expression on her face.
She then sat down, not even
looking at her.
Emi...you seem to be an interesting person.
.....................................
The loud ringing noise woke her up as she slowly
opened her eyes, seeing that the sun had risen and
also that she had left her window open all night.
“Haa...at least it wasn’t a bad dream.”
She ran a hand through her hair, still half asleep.
“Guess I’ll spend the day at the rooftop again...”
And like every single day, she went to school only to
be ignored or even insulted by what she considered
her friends.
She was getting used to those indiscreet
mumblings.
“Hey, isn’t she...”
“Yeah, it’s her”
“How could she even come back after what she did”
“She’s too full of herself”
She sighed.
Ran only wanted to go to the rooftop and
take a nap, until she heard someone behind her.
“Poor Emi...”
That was her last straw.
Before she could even think
twice, she was gripping the collar of the girl behind
her.
“You dare to say that, while you were one of her
bullies ?!”
Her dark eyes looked around, gazing upon the crowd
around her.
“Everyone, absolutely fucking everyone was against
her! Everyone...”
She slowly realized what she was doing, as the other
girl was smirking
“Everyone here did was you told us to do, Kemi.”
Around her, a small laughter could be heard from the
crowd.
She let the girl go, looking down as her
breathing was ragged.
“Ow, you poor thing...” someone teased.
“Imagine
how hard it was for her, our poor classmate who was
suffering because of-Shut the hell up!”
Ran shouted before running away.
Even though the
bell was ringing, she did not care anymore.
She just
wanted to run away, to not hear those voices
accusing her.
In short, she was a coward.
Or at least that is what
she thought.
The school was calm at this time.
Everyone was in
class, so nobody could find Ran.
Nobody could see
her curled up in a corner, crying and apologizing in
loop.
Nobody was here to comfort her, to tell her that
it wasn’t her fault because…
It’ll be a lie.
.....................................
“Hey Emi, wanna lunch with me?
-Sorry, I want to eat alone.
-That's okay haha! Have a good meal!”
The short-haired girl left the classroom again,
sighing.
“She refused again?” One of her friends asked,
receiving a small nod as a response.
“Who do she think she is? It’s been two weeks, and
she still refuses to eat with you!”
She then went in front of her, pinching her forehead.
“And you are stupid for asking over and over every
day.
Do you have a crush on her or what?”
“Wait…you-
-I simply find her interesting, okay?! It’s not what you
think it is!”
And the lunch went by, as Ran was teased by her
friend.
It was now the end of the class, as the short-haired
girl was heading back home.
Her head was full of
thoughts.
How could I make her look at me? How could I make
her spend all her time with me?
As she was deep in her thoughts, an idea emerged in
her mind.
A vicious idea.
“If I do that…she’ll only look at me.
And she won’t be
alone since I’ll be with her…”
Ran chucked to herself
It’s only for love, it’s a pure feeling…and it can’t be
that bad, right?
“Yeah…for love.”
Two months passed, and Emi, who was a nobody to
everyone, became the punching bag of the school.
Every day was synonym of mockery, pranks such as
stealing her shoes and even few hits here and there.....
