The Loch Ness
I- Localisation and presentation of the Lake (Yasmin)
The Loch Ness is a lake place in Scotland in the Highlands in the south-
west of Inverness and in the north-east of Fort Augustus.
It is a freshwater lake, it
has a very lying form.
It is 22,6 miles in length and 1,7 miles in width.
His
surface area is 21,8 square miles and his depth is on average 433 feet.
On the
Loch Ness, there is an island which is The Cherry Island.
A castle was built
beside the lake, is called Urquhart Castle.
II-The legend of the Loch Ness(Léo)
The legend says that a monster live in the lake.
This monster was
nicknamed Nessie.
Since 1930, lots of tourists come in this region to see the
monster.
This legend go back to 565 when holy Columba, an Irish monk, saved
one of his disciple of a certainly dead because he crossed the lake and the
monster wanted to eat him but holy Columba appeal to God and Nessie stay
block and turn to depths.
In 1933, a road was built in the edge of the lake and for
this moment the curiosity of the tourist is returned to see the monster.
III-Identity of Nessie.(Léo)
Nessie was named Nessiteras rhombopteryx by the scientists Sir Peter Scott
and Robert Rines.
There are 3 hypothesis for the species of Nessie :
– A plesiosaur, a big marine animal with a long neck.
This is the well-
know hypothesis, initiated by Robert Rines.
– A sea lion with a long neck named Megalotaria longicollis by Bernard
Heuvelmans in 1965.
– A sturgeon, Adrian Shine think that Nessie is a sturgeon.
IV-Phenomenons and evidence.(Yasmin)
26 films are realized since 1939, the majority of them are directed by the
Loch Ness Investigation Bureau.
15 experiments of echo at sonar were realized
since 1954, 8 of them were conclusive with strange echo.
Several photograph
were published to prove the existence of Nessie but those photograph were
explain.
On the photo, we can see sturgeons, seals, birds, swimmer, tree trunk etc..
