« I will explain you what are low power modes, how much energy they consume according to two different studies and how is it related to the global warming.  A lot of electricity is used by equipment that aren't performing their primary function.

These equipment states are called low power modes, they are neither  completely «on» nor completely «off» as we can see in this figure. Ross and Meier (2000) reports that several international studies have found standby power to be as much as 10% of residential energy consumption.

The results from another 2008 Study found that low power mode consumes 13% of California residential energy consumption.

It represents a of electricity.

Low power mode energy consumption is likely to continue growing rapidly as products with lopomos that use significant amounts of energy penetrate the market. To have electricity, we use different resources.  There are renewable resources and non-renewable resources. We can see on this graph that electricity consummation  is growing and most of the resources are non-renewable.

This contributes to the global warming.

Carbon dioxide is the most important single factor in global warming and it is partly produced by burning fossil fuel. If we stop using low power modes, we will reduce our electricity consummation.

By reducing the electricity consummation, less carbon dioxide will be in the air and this will affect the global warming in a good way!. »
