In a world where social media takes an essential part in a person’s life, among conspiracists, fake news, and misinterpretation of information, the claims and evidence of UFOs and extraterrestrial life remains a controversial and misunderstood topic.

Facing waves of panic and questions about new unknown life forms while there is no scientific proof about them, what could be the most likely explanations for most UAP sightings? Initially, most “sightings” come from fake news sources on social medias.

When fake news are widely spread and when everyone talks about it, the information tends to be believed more easily, causing people to acknowledge the existence of UFOs without making actual research about it.

Subsequently, many phenomena like weird cloud shapes or sky transportation could easily mislead people into believing they are unidentified objects that are not from our planet, which is why some people believe in such theories. To begin with, misleading or false information circulating on social media platforms is one of the main sources of most beliefs about Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), or more professionally speaking, Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).

It could all start with a single person posting wrong information as a conspiracy theory or just to troll others.

But the second those kind of posts become viral and widely spread; a lot of people will start talking about it without fact-checking.

The reason people don’t fact check at all when scrolling on social media is mostly caused by laziness and by the fact that people think some information has higher credibility if it’s talked about by everyone, which is in fact wrong.

A lot of controversial topics, like UAP sightings or evolution (which a lot of people surprisingly don’t believe in when it is scientifically proven) are full of false information once they are posted on social media.
