« Hello ! Today I'm going to talk about the evolution of the English language. I will answer the key question: "English: an asset or a burden? To illustrate my point, I will use 3 documents.

The first is an article from the Guardian published in July 2008 in Portland, the author of this article is Jacob Mikanowski, the title of the article is "How the English language is taking over the planet".

The second document is a publication of the British Council.

It was published in 2011 by Nigussie Negash.

The title is "English language in africa: An impediment or a contributor to devlopment? "And the last document is a map of the British empire made in 1886 in Great Britain. We will first see how the English language can be an asset or a burden, then we will look at the causes of the implosion of the English language throughout the world, and finally we will look at the consequences of this omnipresence of the English language. In the first instance we can say that the English language is rather an asset as in the case of Africa.

We see this in the document: "English language in Africa: Impediment or a contributor to devlopment? This document shows us the importance and the positive consequences of the implementation of the English language in Africa.

For example, more than 20 sub-Saharan countries such as Ghana, Nigeria and Namibia use English as an official language, which allows them to communicate with almost everyone, and English also plays a role in entertainment and media, diplomacy, trade, migration and tourism.

The mastery of English for African communities is therefore a great opportunity to connect with the rest of the world. Moreover, the English language is an asset according to the guardian article "How the english language is taking over the planet" as it is the language of global commerce, the internet, science, star navigation, aviation.

But one can also think that English is a burden because it can be associated, as on the map of the British empire, with colonisation or imperialism to assert the dominance of the English language. We will now look at the causes of the establishment of English throughout the world.
