In 1851, the U.S. schooner America of the New York Yacht Club received a "hundred guinea cup" from the Royal Yacht Squadron for winning a race around the Isle of Wight, England,
against 15 British yachts. Renamed The America's Cup it was offered as a challenge trophy by the New York Yacht Club, with the first challenge taking place in 1870. The yachts are
