« Nowadays, this widespread problem of water pollution is jeopardizing our health.

Unsafe water kills more people each year than war and all other forms of violence combined. Meanwhile, our drinkable water sources are finite: Less than 1 percent of the earth’s freshwater is actually accessible to us.

Water pollution is the release of substances into bodies of water that makes water unsafe for human use and disrupts aquatic ecosystems.

Water pollution can be caused by a plethora of different contaminants, including toxic waste, petroleum, and disease-causing microorganisms. Human activities that generate domestic sewage and toxic waste cause water pollution by contaminating water with disease-causing microorganisms and poisonous substances.

Oil spills are another source of water pollution that have devastating impacts on surrounding ecosystems. The island of Bali is famous the world over for its turquoise beaches.

Every year tourists around the world visit for their dreamy holiday.

But the Island is also facing non-biodegradable plastic waste brought in by strong waves ashore.

On the most famous beach of Bali named Kuta, we can observe a heap of plastic that the ocean has belched.

It’s tons of non-biodegradable plastic like bags, cups, bottles and other discarded items dumped illegally into the sea.

Owing to the rainy season, a small part of plastic rubbish washes ashore on the Kuta beach. Furthermore, on average in Bali, per capita, a tourist uses 3.5 times more plastic per day than a local resident.

Indeed due to the lockdown in 2020, there have been no tourists last year and a little reduction in the amount of discarded plastic. On Kuta beach, a group of volunteers has been pressed into service to clean up the beach, in January 2021. The volunteers studied and examined those waste and discovered they did not come from Bali.

As a result, Indonesia kicked off a world bank backed project, using satellites to trace the country’s maritime rubbish.

The trackers found rubbish from the capital city of Jakarta had floated all the way to Bali, based on seasonal wind and water current patterns. In addition, a local tourism businessman adds that this trash problem bothers not only tourists but also locals. Moreover, the utopian vision of Bali will vanish because the beaches are dirty.

That’s why the locals work to clean up the beaches twice a week. The plastic waste washing up on the shores is not thrown out only by locals.

Hence, the residents hope that the government can get its act together to save Bali’s beaches. To conclude, water pollution is a considerable issue in the world and we need to reduce plastic utilization and stop waste in order to not increase the amount of plastic waste in the sea and continue to clean up beaches.

Moreover, we must raise awareness among people about recycling and not throwing out waste.. »
