The first thing that comes in mind when someone say Tiffany&Co is the blue box.
The iconic signature shade of
blue that has all the girls dreaming.
The blue box is a classic but is it getting a makeover?
According to Vogue UK's September issue, the new creative director, Francesa Amfitheatrof is ready to make
her mark by changing the packaging.
"I might do limited editions, maybe in a pattern" she said "I do love a
mixture of patterns".
I get what she's thinking maybe making limited editions in different packaging could attract younger clients or
maybe collectors.
But of the pleasure of buying a piece of jewley from Tiffany&Co is the iconic packaging, the
distinct shade of blue has us all dreaming.
Did you know that there's a lot of history behind the colour Tiffany blue? It was selected by the founder Charles
Lewis Tiffany for the cover of Blue Box, Tiffany&Co's annual collection of handcrafted jewels that was first
published in 1845.
The colour is nearly 2 decades old.
According to Tiffany&Co's site the colour might have
been selected because of the popularity of the turquoise gemstone in the 19th century.
Since then the colour defined sophistication and elegance and will define them for probably a lifetime.
While the
efforts of Amfitheatrof are noted I don't think that the blue box should not be changed even if it's a limited
edition..
