Greek One of the oldest of the Oceanids,sea Nymph daughters of the Titan gods, Oceanusand Tethys; considered by many Greek writers tobe a second-generation Titan. With help from heryounger sisters, Theisoa and Hagno, Neda nursedthe infant Zeus.According to ancient stories, the Titan goddessRhea found no water with which to cleanse herselfand her son after giving birth to her youngest child,Zeus. In frustration, she struck her scepter againsta boulder, or a mountain, and called on her mother,Gaia, to bring forth water. A spring gushed forth andRhea named the spring Neda, after the nymph, herniece, who would soon help keep this son safe fromthe anger of his father, the Titan god Cronus.
