(Moon) Roman An ancient Italian goddessof the Moon, probably of a lesser rank than the greatRoman goddesses, such as Minerva and Juno. Veryearly in Roman religion, Luna took on the stories andmyths of the ancient Greek moon goddess, Selene,and even some of the mythology of the Roman goddessDiana, the huntress. A temple to Luna stood onthe Aventine Hill in Rome.
