« Biography : He was born into the Bedonkohe Apache tribe in New Mexico, now Arizona, in 1829.

He was both a shaman and a warrior.

He was the symbol of his tribe.

He participated in the Apache wars and in the fight against Mexico for the rights of the American Indians.

His real name is Go Khla Yeh.

Today it is a well-known name that evokes exciting stories. Fight against Mexico : Geronimo was admitted to the war council of the Chiricahuas Apaches in 1846.

In 1858, after his mother, wife and three children were killed by the Mexican army near a village of the Apaches, he began reprisal raids into Mexican territory.

It is said that Geronimo had a dream the day before the white men arrived, he dreamed that white men came to their land to exterminate them.

He avenged his family on September 30, 1859, St.

Jerome's Day.

The cries of the Mexicans invoking Saint Jerome in their defense ("Geronimo! Geronimo!") inspired him and he took that name.

Later, in another surprise attack, the Mexicans killed his new wife and son. In October 1862, he participated with the chiefs Cochise and Mangas Coloradas in the battle of Apache Pass.

Miles.

For more than five months, Geronimo managed to escape from the 5,000 soldiers who were after him.

Exhausted, he finally surrendered on 4 September 1886.

Geronimo and his men were taken to Fort Sill in 1887.

Geronimo converted to Christianity there.

He died of pneumonia in 1909.

Conclusion : He dictated his life story in 1906 before dying of pneumonia at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on February 17, 1909.

His last wish was to be buried on the Gila River land. Legend said that he threws himself on horseback from a cliff in Oklahoma while shouting his name, from where the cry of American paratroopers during World War II.

This cry was notably used by Jerry Lewis in his movie The Ladies Man.

A military dog was named Geronimo during the Second World War and was heroic.

Today, some people want to pay tribute to this dog, to celebrate his courage, but they go to the wrong grave by going to the grave of the real Geronimo, who terrorized the United States.. »
