Greek The oldest and most famoussanctuary of the god Zeus, situated in Epirus, innorthwestern Greece. Since the times of the Pelasgians,the most ancient peoples of the land that is nowcalled Greece, people had come here to consult theOracle who was said to live in a sacred oak tree (somesaid it was a beech tree) and to represent Zeus. Peoplealso worshiped the ancient goddess Dione at Dodona.Her presence at Dodona suggests that the oracle ofDodona was of greater antiquity than Zeus himself.
