Explanation of Bisphenol A
Bisphenol A also called BPA is an organic compound that is used to make plastics, especially to make
shatterproof plastics, but it is also used to make epoxy resins.
It has been in commercial use since 1957.
We
can find BPA in common objects but also in epoxy resins, that's why we can find it inside many food, canned
drinks and in thermal paper.
BPA in thermal paper is very dangerous because it can be transferred to the skin.
Some people think that the residues on hands could be ingested through hand-to-mouth contact, that can be
risky because it can affect our health.
Bisphenol A is a colorless solid that is soluble in organic solvents, but
poorly in water.
It is valued for its binding properties, but it is now clear that BPA has negative effects on the
human endocrine system, it can also affect human hormones, and since hormones control our bodies function,
this can be very dangerous.
Today they try to make things without BPA, which have a « BPA
free » label on it, because since their young age, infants and children are in contact with plastic things
such as toys, pacifiers etc.
This exposure can cause big damages in their development.
